Consultation & Resources
The Consultation & Support Services program offers interventions and supports to permit persons who face behavioral challenges to be more successful in their homes, schools, and local communities. Our focus is to remove behavioral barriers, increase skills, and broaden the opportunities for individuals with disabilities. This allows us to assist agencies in resolving problems which would otherwise result in more restrictive placements or due process hearings.
We work with children and adults of all ages and grades, with all levels of developmental disabilities, and with all levels of behavioral problems. We also work with preschool programs providing intensive early intervention to children with autism and high quality education to typical peers.
Recognizing the strain posed to agency resources by individuals who engage in challenging behaviors and the expense of securing professional assistance to help meet their needs, The Learning Tree, Inc.’s Consultation & Support Services objective is to offer effective and cost efficient consultation. We address significant behavioral challenges and facilitate the effective education of children with disabilities in their home communities. We strive to provide an excellent return on the investments agencies make in our services by helping children and adults learn new skills needed to maximize independence and to minimize the risks of more restrictive and costly placements. Central to our work is the notion of finding and addressing the problem rather than assigning blame.
When we work to help an individual struggling with serious behavior problems, we recognize that the issues faced by that individual may be of little value to students and teachers in other classrooms unless we work with schools to develop capacity at a much broader level. To address this we offer workshops for teachers and administrators on topics such as those listed below.
