History of the Tallassee Campus
The Tallassee Campus enrolled its first students on August 17, 2005. The school building is being transformed from a 1920's-era church to a state-of-the-art school while maintaining its architecturally rich features.
Our children receive educational and residential services from highly qualified and dedicated employees. Services received by our children include an academic education certified by the Alabama Department of Education, vocational skill training, advanced medical services, Applied Behavior Analysis from Board Certified Behavior Analysts, Alabama Department of Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities certified group homes, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, dietician designed meals, and more.
Due to the severity of their challenging behavior and the need for intensive supports, almost all of our students reside in one of our homes. Homes are staffed continuously while students are present.
To insure the health of our students, we employ two nurses so that a nurse is on duty during all waking hours for our students. Local physicians provide primary care for our students and specialists may be local to the area or more distant (Emory University in Atlanta or UAB in Birmingham). We also offer Physical and Occupational Therapy for students in need of those services.
Instructional Services encompass educational programming (reviewed and licensed by the Alabama State Department of Education), programmatic activities surrounding the teaching of adaptive living skills while at home (certified by the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Intellectual Disabilities), and the amelioration of behaviors that are barriers to developing appropriate skills.
